Ellis drew this picture of him and a friend singing in class together. Notice how his friends in the background were separate before Ellis decided to draw a line through them to bring the children together.

This is a favorite of mine and of Big Blue Hug fans. It is from a book about what adventures Ellis would have with a boy from school if they were friends. 

Ellis made 6 books about these adventures. Before these books, Ellis never expressed a desire to make friends. I love that his first conversation on the subject was a whole series of self drawn books!
